Thanks, RedRose, for your info. I took my laptop to a repair shop and was told that some bugs slipped through my free AVG antivirus program. Once he got rid of the bugs, he said my User Profile had not been deleted as the message had said. He did his magic and my laptop seems to be working fine now.
During all of my searching for answers to resolve my problem, I found the HP site below that provides info on how to back up my User Profile and other security info. Maybe this will help others too.
