I just received (01/07/2014) a call from a male person with a heavy East Indian accent saying that he was with HP and had received many alerts that my Windows was in danger of being corrupted and he wanted to confirm my "Windows license number" so that he could access my computer and "fix" the issues. The phone number that showed in my phone was 209-794-4843 which is Stockton area of California. When we tried to call it back we got a message that the "number was disconnected or no longer in service". There was approximately a two minute period between hanging up and our trying to call back.
There were many voices in the background such as a call center when I first answered the phone and was so loud I almost hung jup on him but when I heard HP I stayed on. We did NOT confirm any information with this person. When we asked for a call back number to confirm the call was not a scam he would not give one so we hung up. Has anyone else experienced this type of call?
