Re: Testing the HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC to upgrade to Windows 8.1

I apologize for not making my question clear. I tried to update to 8.1 a number of times, but was left each time with all sorts of problems. I am back to using Windows 8 and now use a handy product called HP Support Assistant. Among the messages HP Support Assistant has alerted me to include "Important Actions I should "take before updating to 8.1". Step 1 is to run the HP Compatibility Assistant which tests my particular machine for the upgrade to 8.1. The message I get is:

“HP has not tested this PC with Windows 8.1

For this reason, HP is unable to provide update instructions or Windows 8.1 drivers. You may lose basic functionality and stability if you try to update your system".

I don't feel confident in upgrading to 8.1 if there is no support for it from HP. I have Windows 8.1 on a five-year-old DELL Studio laptop (which originally ran Windows Vista) and it runs fine. I therefore find it frustrating that my brand new HP Envy can’t handle the upgrade. That was the reason for my question…..when is HP going to test my particular machine (HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC product # D3X19AV) for compatibility to upgrade to 8.1? I hope someone has some insight into this. Thank you for your answer, though.
