Re: IE slowwwwww with new Envy 17T-J100

Hi Butch,

I have a very similar system in my care right now -- and it is indeed quite fast.  Nice computer.

Thoughts and Commentary

The webpage lag could be due to the Add-ons you have installed for whatever browser you are using.  I use Firefox -- and I can, with the flick of a couple of security add-ons, slow down the webpages and search engine listings to the point where it is actually painful to endure.

The browser may not be to blame -- you might check your Internet connection statistics.  If you have some way to do it, check to see if the two systems are connected to two differnt ISP servers at the other end of your ISP connection.

Your security software may be responding differently on one system as compared to the other.  This is something you may be able to check by compariing the security programs on both systems and how they are responding to the Internet connections at the Firewall.

If you are running via Ethernet, consider that you might want to replace that old Ethernet cable.

Check the ports on your router -- unlikely an issue, but it can happen.

Check other components on the network -- for example, if a system is connected to an external USB drive that is throwing errors, this can interrupt the normal flow of packets flowing back and forth.

If you copied your account from one computer to another and did not set up the browser settings from scratch, then you might have an incompatibility within the account structure.  In other words, if you just copied your data from one place to another and the Operating Systems are in any way a mismatch, you may -- amongst other issues -- see problems with the resulting setups.  Ordinarily, one would set up the browser on a new computer by opening the new computer in a new user environment and then Importing favorties and such.

You might restart your Router -- switch off both and the computer.

Perform the Hard Reset on the computer and, before you boot the computer, switch on the router and let it configure itself to the network -- usually takes about 30 seconds more or less.

Hard Reset

  • Close all your programs and Shut down the computer
  • Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
  • Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
  • Boot the computer and log in

In my personal experience, the "Detect my PC" application does not work consistantly -- you can find your drivers and support pages manually without too much trouble.  Start at HP Drivers & Downloads

It is a nice way to say “Thank You”.
