I don't know your machine therefore can't say (note: HP Pavillion 17 is a series of hundreds of different models). Normally card reader on a desktop is a 15-in-1 but on a laptop is only 5-in-1. You can see laptop can't read up to 10 other memory card types. Please check the following article if your machine runs Windows 8:
