I bought same computer from Best Buy as open box as well, no battery. I just went to chat support on the HP site. The customer service rep is sending me a replacement battery free of cost. I think it is free because of the warranty provided by HP when you buy it. I would suggest trying the same thing. Although they didn't ask me, it may be beneficial to not mention you bought it open box without a battery promised. Hope you got a smokin deal on the laptop like I did, becuase I've seen them with different open box prices, sometimes $200 difference. Good luck!
