Hi Candy,

I am so sorry someone took your notebook!  :smileysad:

Worse news:  We cannot help you track it or block it, either.  The  HP Forum is a community staffed volunteer organization -- HP provides moderation and administration services only.

If, by some perverse miracle, someone were to later post on the forum and say, "Hey, I have this notebook and its serial number is bla-bla-bla ... can you help me?"  THEN, before the Moderators got a hold of the post and removed the serial number from the post, some police tracking program might pick up the number.  And that assumes your notebook is on the list of a police hunter program looking for this sort of thing.

If you had Lo-Jack or other similar software installed on the computer, you need to call Absolute software and report the theft.  If you have the premium service package, I understand that it may include the equivalent of a "kill switch";  if the notebook comes back on the Internet the software might be able to wipe the disk.  This is a guess and it may or may not be true.  At the least, if the computer comes back on the Internet, the security software can track the location of the notebook to many covered locations -- not EVERYWHERE, but many locations -- And THAT would help the police find that notebook very quickly.

There is NO way for us to know if you have Lo-Jack -- only you know that.

You have done the right thing by reporting the theft.  Even if you don't get back the notebook right away, if the police find the notebook with a bunch of thieves later, because you DID report the theft, the police can use the information to help nab the thieves.  It may take a while, but it can work.

Again, I am sorry this happened.  It is an awful feeling to have been violated like that.

It is a nice way to say “Thank You" for the help.

Although I strive to reflect HP's best practices, I do not work for HP.
