Re: Laptop won't turn on

I'm experiencing the same problem that most of you did. Unfortunately, it seems like your problems fell in one of two groups: 1) F4 / draining power and reconnecting did the trick; or 2) nothing worked, so you scrapped your laptops and bought new ones.

I have a dv3z-1000; it's been in the family for 3-4 years, but it's only been used for maybe half a year. When it died a year ago, we stored it away, Only hoping to salvage it now because my grandma's laptop is dead.

SYMPTOMS (in chronological order):

-When it died for good a year or two ago, it wouldn't charge at all--it relied on the battery. It's almost as if the laptop didn't recognize the charger. We bought a new charger, which appeared to be perfectly functional. DIdn't appear to be charging.

-When the charger is plugged in, the charging LED (by the lightning bolt symbol) flashes 6/7 times, followed by a long pause. This occurs in an endless cycle.

-After following the unplug/replug method that worked for so many of you, it would randomly begin to start up half the time I pressed the power button. This lasts anywhere from .5-1.5 seconds. In other words, the lights turn on and the fan just begins to run, before it shuts down again.

I'm almost certain this is a power issue--it's almost like the darn thing can't save enough power to really turn on. By the way, that blinking light is the ONLY light on when it's being charged. Some of you seemed to have similar symptoms, but seeing as this thread was created two years ago, I don't think I could ask for a follow-up :P
