Rats!
You may be able to recover your software and driver setup this way.
- Use the Software and Driver install method shown below to download the correct driver for your computer onto your system. Do not yet install your webcam driver
- Follow the procedure to Uninstall any existing Dell webcam software or driver from the Device Manager
Note that you do not have to complete the final step of rebooting the computer this time -- you will be doing a Hard Reset instead of the reboot in this case.
- Complete the Forced / Hard Power Reset to drain away any last little bit of information about the dell driver. This is NOT a reset or removal of your data -- this type of Power Reset just forces the computer to go to the disk to get its software and drivers.
- After you reboot and log in, complete the last part of the driver installation procedure by installing the webcam driver for your HP compouter.
- Restart / Reboot the computer after you install your HP webcam driver
NOTES: You may have to repeat this or something similar for a bunch of your HP drivers and software. That assumes that something really odd did not already happen as a result of the Dell disk being in the computer during the intial recovery process.

Install Software and Drivers from your computer’s HP Website
First, create a place to which you can return in case things do not work as you hope:
Install Software and Drivers from HP Website
Go to the top of the HP forum page to Support and Drivers
- If prompted, Enter your Country or Region and
- Click on Drivers and Downloads
- Enter your Computer Model information, that is, the Product Number or exact model **
- Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu... Scroll down
- Select desired Category - for the Webcam software go to:
Software - Multimedia
NOTE: Download ONLY the relevant drivers and software for YOUR hardware - note that in the website you might find more than one kind of driver for more than one model of computer -- this is normal, but it does not mean YOUR computer uses all the software offered. See your Device Manager for specifics on drivers installed on your computer.
- Expand and decide if you need to install that package.
- Assure that you download and install only the most recent versions of each driver or program.
- Save the appropriate *.exe installation package on your computer
NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “
- Install the Software / Driver installation package: If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package(s) and “double-click” to install, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
NOTE: There is sometimes a lot of information at the computer’s website. Take a look at what’s available and bookmark the page for later reference.
** If you cannot find your system, try entering the exact model or Product number into Google or your favorite search engine. You can sometimes find systems listed in the HP database using this method when the computer is not found using the standard search in Support and Drivers
