Re: Hp pavilion g6 , immense hardisk failure. system configuration menu Harddisk test also failure.

Dear David - I too am having hard disk errors (at least that's what it says on my com)

I dunno what to do! please help!

summary of problems:-

My Computer, a HP pavilion g6 seems to have a variety of problems when starting up. it has become unreliable (starting up and getting into windows no problem and working just fine OR getting into windows and then just shutting down and refuses to restart OR won't get into windows at ALL and all I get is a black screen that says 'boot device not found' or 'hard disk error'

more details are as follows:-

a) hard disk error problem A

I get this on the screen

----------------------

Hard Disk Error

Please run the Hark Disk Test in System Diagnostics.

Hard Disk 1 (3F1)

F2 System Diagnostics

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so I press the f2 for system diagnostics (Run In test is one of the options and I chose this one as an example) and usually it completes just fine BUT then comes up w this message:--->

100% of system memory tested OK

------ bytes of system memory tested OK

Memory test pass

Primary Hard disk Self Test

Quick Test

Hard Disk 1 fault

SMART check to Exit testing

Hard disk SMART Passed

but when I get back on the main screen of 'hard disk error', it says

that Run-In Test FAILED" and "Hard Disk 1 Quick" (303)

DA HECK

sometimes also, just for variety's sake it seems, there is a b) boot device error instead (Problem B) -->

b) and I get this screen-->

Windows Boot Manager

Windows has encoutnred a problem communicating with a device connected to our com.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is stil in use, or by faulty hard ware such as a hard drive or CD-Rom drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your com.

Status 0xc00000e9

Info – an expected I/O error has occurred.

or c) Boot Device not found (Problem C)

Please install operating system on your hard disk

Hard disk 3F0

F2 system diagnostics

or d)

Disk read error has occurred

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I have included all my conundrums. there might be more but these are errors that I see most frequently.

now the question that I need to ask is WHAT.DO.I.DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

any help is much appreciated. I'm just a student so funds are tight and I just checked the warranty on my com and it has expired. I can only afford to go w a DIY fix! this com I only bought March of last year. it shouldn't fail so fast on me! and I have antivirus programs on etc etc.

PLS HELP!!!!

PS. should I do a system recovery back to original factory settings? seems like my com has a D drive for recovery. do i still need to make disks? is it dumb as heck to make a recovery from a system that is failing? (I didn't do it when I just got the com as recommended by HP)
