Re: HP Part 436255-001 Need driver for Compaq 6710b - Conclusion HP Mistake - part doesn't work

Befuddled by HP once again.

Hours of work, internet research, chat support, telephone support, support by third part vendors, reveals the real truth.  HP let us down.

There is no Wireless LAN Card for the HP Compaq 6710b that will support 802.11n.  No reference to any wireless LAN card on the HP website is going to provide 802.11n speeds, there is no way for that to be possible.

In order to function as a true 802.11a/b/g/n, for example the HP approved part 441086-001, for the Compaq 6710b will NOT work in the PC.  The wireless card, in order to be a true 802.11n MUST be able to transmit on 2.4 GHz AND 5.8 GHz.  In order to do that the wireless card has three connections for antenna from the PC.  The only problem is the Compaq 6710b only has two antenna connections.

The bottom line is that a real 441530-001 and a real 441086-001 WILL NOT work in the Compaq 6710b.  No speed improvement, no dual channel, no support by HP, and HP also claims there is no driver that works for the card as well.

Nothing but yet another major flub by HP that cost me way too much time, money, and effort.  To make matters worse their own chat and telephone staff didn't understand.  Neither does those who reply to the posts in HP support forum.
