Re: ProBook 6470b: hints and tips about how to properly healthy keep the battery

Hi,

Take a look at this HP support page about keeping batteries healthy:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01297640

Yes, I think it is best not to think too much about the battery and enjoy the PC, batteries will always get worse over time plugged in or not. I usally replace every  2 years.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

Yes, it does happen when I make the change with the BCU. I also made sure I was using the latest version of the BCU which I believe is 4.0.24.1.

I have not tried "Manufacturing Programming Mode", I have never used it. I will google it and let you know!

Thank you for your help,

Sebastien

Thanks for your reply but unfortunately, it does not work at all.

The moment it is shutting down, the whole process will hang at the Shut down screen.

Please advise.  Thank you!

VGA port deactivates when notebook is added in docking station

$

Hello,

I changed my old 745 G2 with an 840 G3 but the 2 monitors (LP2065) and docking station D9Y32AA are still kept and i will use them for a while.

The problem is that when i mount the notebook in the docking station, the VGA port from the notebook is deactivated and only the VGA port from the docking will work, hence i am not able to use both external monitors in the same time.

The old 745 worked perfectly (no deactivation on his VGA port once mounted to docking station).

What i did so far:

checked for the latest version of the firmware for docking station but nothing found.

updated the latest BIOS for the notebook.

updated the latest drivers for video card.

Thanks

This is most  likely a design feature as when docked all ports are repulicated from the dock.  I would check and see if the dock has a VGA and a DVI or HDMI and use one of those for the second monitor if possible.

SoftPaqs: Versions of drivers vs models supported. Should we always install the latest?

$

Hello all,

one simple question that any HP expert should know the answer to.

I am trying to build OSD for a series of HP models (both desktops and laptops).

It seems like there are multiple versions for any software or drivers included in different softpaqs.

For example:

Class    Driver            Version        SoftpaqID   ModelsSupported
-----    ------            -------        ---------   ---------------
Software HP Hotkey Support 5.0.28.1 Rev.A sp71790.exe EB820G1:EB840G1:EB850G1
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.16.1 Rev.A sp76281.exe PD400G3MT
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.29.1 Rev.A sp77566.exe EBF1040G2
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.34.1 Rev.A sp79266.exe EB820G2
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.37.1 Rev.A sp79849.exe ZBG3
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.39.1 Rev.A sp81790.exe EB820G3:EB840G3:EB850G3:ED800G3DM
Software HP Hotkey Support 6.2.41.1 Rev.A sp84846.exe EB820G4:EB840G4:EB850G4:EB830G5:EB840G5:EB850G5

My question is:

Can we use the latest version for all models? It seems like that should be the proper way to go.

The above are taken directly from HP Support Pages for our current fleet. BUT, I found out that version 6.2.41.1 (the latest) within its CVA file it says that it has superceded version 6.2.39.1 Rev.A. So, only after opening the specific CVA I was able to see that what HP Support pages provide (as well as SSM) is not current.

The same would apply to the chipset drivers, graphics drivers etc. It really doesn't make sense to deploy numerous versions to our fleet when the latest should cover for all.

Any answers, kindly be with specific knowledge.

Thanks a lot!

Another great example is below:

Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Software          11.0.0.1158 Rev.B sp74499.exe WSZX20
Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Components Driver 11.6.0.1045 Rev.A sp79059.exe EB820G1:EB840G1:EB850G1:EB820G2:EB840G2:EB850G2:ZBG2:EBF1040G2Smiley TongueD400G3MT
Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Driver            11.7.0.1035 Rev.A sp82015.exe ED800G1DM:ED800G1TWR:ED800G1USDTSmiley TongueD600G1DMSmiley TongueD600G1SFFSmiley TongueD400G2MT:ED800G3DM:ED800G3SFF
Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Driver            11.7.0.1045 Rev.A sp82469.exe EB830G5:EB840G5:EB850G5:ED800G2SFF
Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Components Driver 11.7.0.1045 Rev.W sp82472.exe EB820G3:EB840G3:EB850G3:EB820G4:EB840G4:EB850G4:ZBG3
Chipset-ME Intel Management Engine Software          11.7.0.1065 Rev.A sp84650.exe WSZX40

Although there are numerous softpaqs, if we look inside the CVAs, we see a very limited set of HP Models as Supported.

BUT if we actually have a look inside the .inf files of the drivers, they are proper Intel drivers and support all of the models.

Thanks,

Alex

Re: Car Charging options for Z Series workstations?

This is an excellent question and one that I am also interested in finding an answer to.

Looking at the datasheet for the ZBook x2, it looks like any charger would need to supply a minimum of 65W to the device. Something I've noticed in looking at car chargers is that often the total power output is calculated across all USB ports—for example, a charger claiming 90W and has two USB ports is actually delivering 45W on each port. It is certainly frustrating especially given the high price of the chargers.

This one is interesting, but again, there's no absolute clarity on single-port output.

Apart from these open questions, I assume that the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the ZBook support Power Delivery (USB-PD), so it theoretically should charge if the wattage is high enough. That said, be sure to get a certified USB-PD cable if the charger doesn't come with one; melting is no good!

Please let us know if you find anything that works; i'll do the same.

Hi DA_Creation,

I had this exact same issue in the past after I sent in a laptop for repair.

As soon as the laptop starts up, press Windows key for an automatic BIOS update check. Then go through the steps to configure the BIOS update and you should be all set.

Hope this works,

Hi Korrawit,

You could try the procedures outlined below to disable your touchpad. The procedures should be applicable to most Window users

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type [device manager] into the Search box. Click the device manager result, and the Device Manager window will pop up
  3. Expand [Mice and other pointing devices]
  4. Right-click the touchpad's entry. In the menu that pops up, click [Disable]

Hope this information may aid in solving your problem
