Re: CD/DVD drive is not showing on my laptop HELP PLEASE!

Sorry to hear of your PC troubles, my problem is similar.  I have a newer HP Pavilion DV-7 6135dx.   I bought the 3 yr extended warranty & have spent hours upon hours reading on both HP & Windows websites troubleshooting on my own, trying all the listed fixes.  Some automated & I don't think Windows can fix it because it doesn't see that the CD/DVD drive is there.

Then spent hours on the phone with 2 diff HP Techs, the last tech decided my CD/DVD drive was defective because of how it showed up using a dos prompt like window:

X:\windows\system32>disk part

disk part>list volume

It shows a column chart & this is just the line item for what should be the CD/DVD:

volume #     Ltr      Label              FS          Type           Size        Status

3 letter         F:      HP_Tools        Fat 32     Partition      102 mb    Healthy

Guess what rec'd the new drive today in mail, changed it out & nothing has changed, it shows the same as above.  Doesn't show up under Computer or Device Manager, however it does show up in the Bios.

Per HP website documentation this should be a software problem.

You could look at the disk part info to see if your PC says something different.

A cheaper fix, although I don't know the quality on eBay vs. a retail store, but you can buy an external CD/DVD drive for probably less than having computer repaired.  (I have no idea what repairs might cost.) I know it would be drag having to deal with an external drive.  Just another alternative.

If you could reply back with the info you have on buying Driver I would be interested in knowing about that.  Of course I have to go round 3 now with HP Techs to get them to figure that part out & pay for it under warranty.

Good luck!
