Re: Re-enable Bluetooth of laptop, it is present in laptop but permanently disabled

Hi,

You would have to be willing to install W7 to try it out.  The HP connection manager will not run on W10.

Use the HP cloud recovery client to create W7 installation media...

This package provides the Cloud Recovery Client for supported models running a supported operating system. This Client Utility enables users to download the Recovery Kit from the cloud.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85001-85500/sp85318.exe

I've attached the instructions below for how to use the utility.

If after you do the above and the BT still doesn't work, then I would concur with REO51ST, that the bluetooth portion of the wifi adapter is defective, and the wifi adapter will need to be replaced.

Thank you for confirming this, I really would want to test this first before making a purchase. The only question we could resolve, should it disable to list in the bios with all other components, even headphone jack is listed. My other ZBook G2 does have bluetooth, but just the new one is missing.

You're very welcome.

It has been my experience with HP business notebooks (except my 350 G1) that I have owned that they all have an enable/disable bluetooth setting in the BIOS.

So, I can't say if the BIOS in your notebook has that option or not.

If it did, it would say that the BT radio was enabled or not present.

Not present would indicate that the bluetooth portion of the wifi adapter is kaput.

With the BT radio turned off using the HP connection manager software, the BIOS will still report that it is enabled, which is why this drives most folks nuts trying to figure out what the problem is.

I care fully visited all settings in bios, and I could find a setting for that, that means, and also share by @RIO, then i believe it would be krupt or permanently disabled in same way.

Btw, learning the cloud recovery is great from you.

Thank you.

Anytime.

Yes, if you found a bluetooth setting and it is set to disabled or not present, then the BT portion of the wifi adapter is no good.

Replacing the wifi adapter should resolve the issue.

Very interesting,

However, it is possible that if the BT radio is kaput, the BT bios setting will not show up.

I have seen that in several HP business notebooks, and desktops.

If the hardware is not present, then there is no corresponding BIOS setting.

That would be another reason to conclude hardware failure.

Since I don't own any PC's (mine are all ancient) that use the cloud recovery client, I cannot troubleshoot the issue.

Try a different flash drive if you have one.

@REO51ST  @Pual_Tikkanen

Yes, bluetooth in this screenshot is not in my notebook under the wlan listing, but it would be helpful, if just replacing the card would also enable the bluetooth.

Based on all the information provided thus far, if it were me, I would be ordering a new wifi/bluetooth adapter.

It seams that the Bluetooth part of the combo card is not working???

That would be a first???

Would you know if the card is WhiteListed??

It is very unusual for that to happen, but it can.

I think that  should just order the same card.

It is the best one available for that model.

I would recommend getting the HP part part number off the card, because there are two variations of the same card...and you don't want to order the wrong one.

Not sure if there is a whitelist.  The previous wifi adapter would have been the Intel 7265 AC M.2 dual band with BT.

I currently have 8260 card, I was looking 9260 which have bluetooth 5.0, I believe it should work with my laptop.

If your notebook doesn't have a BIOS whitelist, then you can give that newer model wifi adapter a try.

I don't think it does, but I see mixed statements from other HP forum members with other new-ish model notebooks, that replaced the wifi card with one not listed in the service manual.

A BIOS whitelist traditionally prevents the notebook from booting up until the wifi adapter is removed.

Now what seems to be happening in some cases, is that the notebook boots up just fine with the wifi adapter, but it doesn't work--doesn't show up in the device manager, just like the BT isn't showing up now in your notebook right now.

I wish I could give you more concrete advice, but I have not seen any posts where anyone has installed that model wifi adapter in any notebook and reported the outcome.

ZBook / Elitebook G5 series: Is TPM 1.2 going to be supported?

I notice that the TPM 2.0 to 1.2 firmware upgrades do not seem to be available yet for any of the G5 notebooks. Plus their official specs all seem to say TPM 2.0 support. TPM 1.2 is still very important for businesses. Are we going to have the same TPM 1.2 firmware downgrade path for the G5 series.

This seems like this should be really really easy considering the laptops I'm talking about all have the exact same TPM (Infineon model) as the previous generation. I'm really hoping HP will continue to provide the firmware downgrade.

Thanks

Prefect, thank you @Paul_Tikkanen.

I would try the same model, I was even thinking with a slightly upper version eg. 8265, but with your advice I would just try 8260 for a succesful experience.

You're very welcome.

That would be the safest way to go.

Please post back and let us know if replacing the wifi adapter resolved the disappearing Bluetooth issue.

For those looking for HP USB-C power delivery (industry standard) - that HP disabled in their flagship Spectre laptop series -- THERE IS A FIX!  It is BIOS update F.29.  BUT! You will have to find it and manually update because HP's driver update app "Support Assistant" FAILS to perform (surprise?)

However, props to HP for hearing the global outcry about their attempt to monopolize their USB-C implementation by disabling Power Delivery.  Hopefully this is a teachable moment and HP marketing/engineering geeks will grok the failure of proprietary technology to improve on industry standards. e.g. UNIVERSAL Serial Bus.

Good on HP for correcting a major misstep.

Yes, try System Recovery again-following the steps in the link above exactly.
