Re: HP EliteBook 8540p BIOS update

However, according to the latest INTEL Microcode Revision Guidance 02 April 2018 -

  • Arrandale is in Production (MCU Rev: 0x10)

Intel has completed all validation and is authorizing customers to use this MCU in a production environment.

So catch 22, Intel the vendor release the microcode, but HP ignore it.

Therefore, the only other hope is if Microsoft release the microcode under KB4090007: Intel microcode updates, of which it hasn't currently.

No remaining battery time (Win 10 1803)

Clean install of Win 10 1803 Pro. Bios and all drivers are current (according to hp Support Assistant). Battery check OK, no calibration needed. BIOS reset to defaults.

Windows 10 doesn't show remaining time on battery, only % (even tried different power profiles). Surprisingly it DOES show time to full charge!

>wmic path win32_battery get..

EstimatedChargeRemaining=97
EstimatedRunTime=

...

IT IS EMPTY !!!

Please advise!

Thanks

Sorry but this is BS (Bad Statement). I have old good ProBook 6460b right next to me, 1803 installed, remaining battery displayed in both percend AND MINUTES.  So definitely nothing has been removed by default, or atleast it's not black/white.

Back to my 450 G5. I already have

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

EnergyEstimationEnabled=1

I'll try to add:

UserBatteryDischargeEstimator:ffffffff

and see if THAT one helps. Keep fingers crossed pls.

No combination helped. Here's what's on WORKING hp probook:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power]
"Class1InitialUnparkCount"=dword:00000040
"CsEnabled"=dword:00000001
"CustomizeDuringSetup"=dword:00000001
"EnergyEstimationEnabled"=dword:00000001
"HiberFileSizePercent"=dword:00000000
"MfBufferingThreshold"=dword:00000000
"PerfCalculateActualUtilization"=dword:00000001
"TimerRebaseThresholdOnDripsExit"=dword:0000003c
"OneSettingPowerButtonBugcheck"=dword:00000000
"HibernateEnabled"=dword:00000000

Anyway current 450 G5 BIOS DOES IS BUGGY. I tried to disable battery (as it's non - removable, but):

- Battery Safety Mode [x] does NOTHING, the computer CAN be powered on without power adapter

- Disable battery on next shut down is greyed out.

Yes, version 9.0.203.0 is referring to the sound card driver. And the driver of my Realtek PCIE Cardreader (which is located at the PCI Express Root Port #12) is "10.0.16299.21304".

The other versions I updated in the last few days was the Realtel USB Audio Driver to Version "6.3.9600.171" / sp87614, because I'm using the Elite USB-C Dock G3. And I updated the Intel Graphic Card Driver to Version "15.65.5018" / sp87556.

And I updated the Intel Management Engine Firmware to Version "11.8.50.3470". This Updates was dated to 17.05.2018, but disappeeared from the Support Pages. But after this update, I tested the Laptop, but the issue did not disappear.

Only after the update of the Sound Card Driver to 9.0.203.0 it disappear. Maybe it's the whole combination?

Update: And a few seconds after my reply, the problem start's again. Smiley Sad I don't know what it triggered. Fastboot and everthing else worked as expected. I think we have to wait for HP and Microsoft, because someone metioned, they are aware of the problem.

Hello Leaskovski,

Honestly, HPSA isn't the most accurate and it's sometimes preferred that the user simply refers to their computer's Software and Drivers page.

What you can try doing is uninstalling HPSA on your computer and reinstalling the latest version: HP Support Assistant.

Eddy

It actually started with 1709 but I can say all the laptops I have been using had the remaining battery runtime disappear after the new Windows 10 version was installed. It does not bother me since I know it is a WAG (wild afflicted guess) anyway.

Yep, I have uninstalled the HPSA app.  Instead I have downloaded the Softpaq Download Manager and am now just using that with regards making sure my drivers and firmware are up to date.

Although your reply is obviously right, it doesnt help me. And I'd be less strict - the only guess is the future load. Rest is pretty rigid.

So I'd rather let my computer do the differential calculus than myself.

P.S. what does your car say when you're running of gas? That you have 8% of your tank left, or that you have 50 miles left?

Neither one its an old school analog meter which is also notoriously inaccurate. Do you wait until the thing drops below the E line to put more gas in? Not sure why it makes any sense to even argue about this. But thats what we do I guess.

Again, simple differential calculus. If you refuel too soon (=>often) , then you waste your life refueling. If too late, you risk you'd push / walk to pump. And ofcourse consider the risk factor yo can accept.

But we're getting offtopic.

You are right! See below:

SOLVED!!  Smiley Happy

I have finally managed to get to the native resolution:

I am using the following adapter:
Display Port to DVI Dual Link Active Adapter Converter, powered by USB, that supports resolutions up to 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz, from "Club 3D B.V." :

https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B005IKC2VC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And then a Dual Link DVI 24+1 cable, as it's the only input accepted by the LP3065:

https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00JKHMF9S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The cost for the first one was 120€, the DVI -DVI costs less than 8€

It works both from the PC DisplayPort and from the Docking Station.

Thanks to all who tried to help!

Same problem here on ProBook 450 G5. Simulate problem is easy: just disconnect AC cable and system (ACPI.sys) start take 12% from CPU (1 full core, Intel i7). I have also latest Windows 10 x64 (build 1803), lastest updates and problem persist. It's happening only if notebook run on batteries. If you connect cable back - it doesn't fix problem. You must go to Sleep and wake up on AC then CPU problem disappear.

From posted solutions here on the forum - this one was working for me:  Disable device "Mobile 6th/7th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #12 - 9D1B". I don't know what will stop working but we will see later.

Same model - same issue. Problem exists in Win10 1709 and the new 1803.

I'm using older HP models (e.g. Elitebook 840 G3) with 1803 and none of them show the same behaviour.

In total, wasted a couple of days trying to figure out what's wrong with the new HP device.

So far, the trick with "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager is the only task that - temporarely - solves my issue - at leats until the next power up from Sleep or Hibernation mode. - But frankly, this can't be the final solution.

What did NOTsolve my problem:

1) Updating Intel drivers

2) Uninstall Intel RST

3) Uninstall Intel ME

4) Disable Conexant ISST Audio

5) Disable "Wake on LAN" in the Power Settings of the network cards

6) Disable "Turbo Mode" in BIOS - it resolved only the high CPU clock rate and therefore overheating of the system -> the fan does not need to run permanently now

7) ... some teaks I alreday forgot

can confirm everything nathan1470 wrote... I had tried everyting in that list (and several different power saving settings und even downgrading some drivers and whatnot)..

multiple times I thought the problem was gone, but it reappeared the next day or within minutes.

"Scan for hardware changes" is only a temporary fix, often the cpu-load reappeared within minutes - even a scheduled job that regularly "scanned  for hardware changes" every 15 minutes was not sufficient to keep the cpu load low..

But again: disabling PCI Express Root Port #12 permanently "solved" it (for over a week now - also on a colleagues notebook..)

Re: BSOD New Probook 440 G5

We have about 5 new HP440G5 Laptops and since the 1803 update we got a BSOD every 10-20 minute following a strange sound coming from the laptop speakers and then the PC rest it self.

We did contacted HP and Showed them EVENT LOGS  that sat there is some communication problem from the OS to the hardware.

HP say this is a driver problem but will not stay to witch component and when will be a fix.

Now we stuck with 5 new laptops with no use.
