How to get SMC.bin file for hp probook 640
Hi:
Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to help you, since HP will no longer supply the required SMC.bin file that is used to clear the BIOS password.
That was the only way it could be done.
HP issued this document recently...
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824
Also the forum rules were amended on 1 March 2019, which no longer allow us to help with removing BIOS passwords.
Rule 4.d...

I'm still waiting for an answer.
Thanks

We have new HP ZBook 17 G5 that does not recognize Thunderbolt Dock G2 230W. When we connect dock through thunderbolt system informs us that there are external monitor, but it never shows picture on external monitor. But it can use Ethernet and other USB devices via dock. There also now Thunderbolt icon in a tray or if it appears Thunderbolt Controllers list is empty. Tried to update BIOS, video adapters drivers, thunderbolt drivers/firmware, USB 3 drivers - no help. Also when trying to update dock's firmware there appears message "Thunderbolt Controller - Device driver missing". In Device manager there are UCM-UCSI ACPI device with mark that it was stopped because of the error (code 43). Tried update this device driver - no succeed. Is there any suggestions what else I can do?
P.S. Windows was just installed and at that moment can't be reinstalled, because the person who has rights for this is in vacation
P.P.S. Found this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Driver-ACPI-VEN-USB-amp-DEV-C000-for-Windows-10/m-p/7070089#M167681 can this be also my case? How I can diagnose that defect is in hardware not in software?

Thank you for your answer. Where are you see information about 2 slots in specs?
I have the same question about other models. That is why I try to find this information by myself.
Hi!
Have you tried charging the laptop using a different adapter or battery?
Were there any recent windows update on the PC?
Try updating BIOS and other drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant.
Run Power Troubleshooter.
On Cortana, enter Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting.
Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next.
This should run the troubleshooter, and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again.
Also, Try performing a hard reset on your laptop and check if it helps.
Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
The computer starts normally or a startup menu opens.
NOTE:If your computer does not start after pressing the Power button, then a power reset did not resolve the startup issue. SeeAdditional resources for further troubleshooting steps.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
Lastly, try running a battery test from the HP support assistant.
Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here
Let me know how it goes!

Completely unsure what docking station and what cable would be compatible with the HP Pavilion x 360 as far as powering/charging goes. As you know it came with the manuf AC adapter, and not many port options. My model has a USB c port but it's not for charging and it has 2 USB SS ports.
Thanks for your help!

No, no option in this case.

I was using my laptop and it just shut off and will not turn back on. It is not working. I have 7 months of manufacturer’s warrant left on it. I just need instructions on what to do now. I brought it back to the store I bought it (wal-mart) and I was referred to this website. I need it back, in school, School is online. Can’t do online school without a computer.
I called customer care number for technical support. They are asking me some password. What is that?
We've had the same issues with the exact same models aswell, and done some internal testing.
Seems like the issue is with the HP ProBook 430 G5 laptops that runs windows 10 (1809), after a windows update to (1903) it all works fine.
Check drivers for the integrated GPU if they are correct, and working properly. If that doesn't solve the issue, check the Windows 10 version if you are running 1809.
Hi !!!
KIndly log complain against this laptop S/N_5CG8275TNR regarding display damage issue.
Hello,
in order to fix an issue due to the upgrade to the Windows 10 PRO 1903, I had to reinstall the OS keeping all my apps and files. The procedure to do that requires to disable the Secure Boot (if enabled).
I had to check ti in the BIOS settings and it seemed that no Secure Boot was enabled.
That was the first time I "faced" the Secure Boot.
After I completed the reinstallation, I wanted to enable the Secure Boot since the advantage it may add in terms of protection against pre-boot viruses.
I went in the BOOT options as you may see below:
First
Second
Third
I selected UEFI then I rebooted; a message told me that was impossible to boot.
I had to restart my PC and this time no message on left below the screen informed me (as before in normal BOOT) what was the key to press to enter the BIOS.
At first, I was completely lost thinking about the impossibility of booting again!
I then restarted my PC and pressed the ESC key - and it worked - I entered in the BIOS settings and reenabled the BIOS legacy option that is the old setting.
Now I wonder if my PC features the Secure Boot and if yes, what is the right procedure to enable it.
Thank you.

Hi,
Recently purchased a HP Zbook 15v G5 workstation. I was looking at upgrading the RAM and the storage space. I've got the RAM handled, no big deal. Stumped when it comes to storage. I opened it up and it appears to have a 256GB M.2 SSD installed. No 2.5" SSD, I see the blank space where it would go, just not connection piece?
Just doing some light photo editing and graphic design, but I feel I need more than the 256GB which is half used anyway. Best way to update one or both?
Thanks!
Firstly you need the following parts for 2.5" HDD/SSD
(a) Upgrade M.2 SSD to larger capacity up to 2TB (or just adding 2.5" HDD/SSD.
(b) Add 2.5" HDD/SSD after installing the above kits. For example

Regards.
Hi! Thanks for your response.
So is the 2.5" drive with the parts ordered, is it going to be plug and play? or does it take some skill to install the new parts beyond a screw driver?
As for the M.2, I will have to restore the system info from the 256GB drive to the new drive, Correct? Is there any suggested method for this type drive?
