Re: BIOS password reset for HP ZBook 15u G2

Hi,

For that machine, you will need to Contact HP Business support - they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

You can contact HP Business Support in your country via

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

or

https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

Just to note, don't try removing the rtc battery.  It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause it to fail.

Hello ,

According to HP's internal marketing database, the planned obsolescence date is Jan 31, 2020.

Not sure how accurate this is though so you shouldn't completely rely on this date.

It just seems that most retailers have this in stock but try waiting a bit. There are also tons of other good options so you should check them out. I'm sure HP has superb alternatives.

All the best,

Eddy

Thunderbolt G2 & HP ProBook 430 G5

Hi, We have bought recently an HP ProBook 430 G5 notebook.

We need a Dock compatible with this model that supports multiple screens, network and power charging. I can see that exists a lot of models but We have questions abouts the Thunderbolt G2.

The price is well but we need to know with security that this model is full compatible with de ProBook 430. ¿Can power charge this model throw the USB-C and mantain the charge level? In the specs appears that is 15W (Thunderbolt G2) and 65W (Pro Book). We need additional cables, adapters or something like this? Any better Dock?

Many thanks

Do We need additional cables or the unremovable cable from the Thunderbolt is enough to connect the thunderbolt, transmit the video, wireless keyboard, mouse and power charge de notebook at the same time?

USB-C charging Pro X2 Tablet

My employer recently replaced my Dell laptop with a Pro X2 but has left the other parts of my workstation in tact, i.e. 27" Displayport monitor, mouse, keyboard etc and all this is plugged into a Dell USB-C port replicator (USB-C dock).

The USB-C output output of the Dell  dock won't charge my HP X2 so I have to use the USB3 socket on the laptop and Dell dock to ensure it's has access to the external monitor/keyboard/ mouse etc and the HP USB-C charger to charge the tablet.

What I'd like to do is use the USB-C on the Dell dock to do everything like It did with the Dell laptop. I thought USB-C was meant to be a common standard so it would just work but it doesn't. Is there an adapter or does the community know of a solution to this?

Thanks

Martyn

Welcome to the HP Support Community

Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Phone >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Or download these files.

 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1m0NU2sPsAdlSWcn7TJynbt8D6oChbrMT?usp=sharing

Insert clean USB flash drive.

Then run USB Image tool.

Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE.

After restore remove flash drive.

Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot.  ”If an HDD is installed remove before booting.”

At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   “Then hit enter”

Type HPBR    “Then hit enter”

First thing is to save your settings.

Select #3 re-program.

Press “S” to save system information.

Type HPBR and hit enter.

Select   “FIRST RUN”

Then select model.

After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT, “SECOND RUN”

If you cannot boot from USB flash drive use Options in the Image tool to build a HDD.

Then use the drive to boot the program on the locked laptop.

Re: USB-C charging Pro X2 Tablet

Hello

USB-C can provide several power output.

according to the X2 612 G2 Quci specs, https://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c05373376 , the power supply of this product can delivers 5V / 9V / 10V /12V / 15V / 20V. Only 12V ,15V and 20V at 45W.

What is not written is which voltage level is required by the X2 612 G2 between 12, 15 and 20V.

if X2 612 G2 (for example) works at 15V and the DELL USB-C Docking is able to provide  (for example) 45W at 20V , it will never work,

even if f X2 612 G2 (for example) works at 20V and the DELL USB-C Docking is able to provide  (for example) 45W at 15V , it will never work.

So the voltage provided by the DELL USB-C Connector must match the voltage required by the X2 612 G2.

USB-C protocols lets the X2 612 G2 and DELL Dock to have an information exchange in order to find a common voltage but if it doesn't exit, there is no way to charge the X2 612 G2 using the DELL Docking.

Unfortunately I don't know the Voltage required by X2 612 G2 neither the Voltage provided by the DELL docking.

I assume that the Power Level (at least 45W) are provided by DELL Dock as you were already using a Dell notebook.

bye
