Sounds like a "second language" keyboard OR perhaps a symbol set (?).

The exact model of your x360 might influence what is relevant as might the language / symbol set on the keyboard.

If you have searched the 'net for "HP blue keys on keyboard" (or similar), you have found many community posts that try to answer this question.

In the past, I have answered the question with only limited success (I don't have a keyboard of this type).

One of the many articles that I found that might be helpful:

How to Access the Special Characters on your Laptop Keyboard

Welcome to the HP Support Community

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Phone >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Just to note:

Do not try removing the RTC battery.  It will not remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as SMC files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the SMC  will cause it to fail.

DriveLock Option Not Able To Be Set - ProBook

Hi,

I'm trying to activate Drivelock on my new HP ProBook 450 G5 notebook. But when I get to the point where system says "Select drive", no drives are showing up.

I have an EliteBook that I've been able to set DriveLock up on, no problems.  I'm wondering if there is something with the laptop model or hard drive model that is not allowing me to select my SSD?  Seems silly to have the option there but no drive can be selected.

Hello,

We bought the new HP Probook 450 G6 4SZ45AV

After installing Windows Enterprise 65 bit LTSB, there are 3 hardware components who don't install.

Lookink online for drivers or googling the hardware id's does not get us to something.

Can anyone tell me what hardware the following hardware id's represent?

ACPI\VEN_HPIC&DEV_000C
USB\VID_06CB&PID_00B7&REV_0164
USB\VID_8087&PID_0AAA&REV_0002

Thanks.

USB\VID_06CB&PID_00B7&REV_0164 : Synaptics touchpad stuff

USB\VID_8087&PID_0AAA&REV_0002 : Something from Intel try bluetooth

ACPI\VEN_HPIC&DEV_000C : Try the accelerometer

Use this site to find out what devices are using the VID(Vendor ID) and PID(Product ID) https://devicehunt.com/

Hi:

Yes you can try the HP Client Security Manager software, which superceded the HP Protect Tools software...

HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore, should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported computer models that are running a supported operating system.

But if you meant that you can't find the ProtectTools software, you can get it at the link below...

Hello

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

A great choice of a computer you have made - Elitebooks are my favourite.

Protect Tools is the previous version of the newer Client Security.

and select Windows / Windows 7 x64

Concentrate on the Security section (download/run the needed apps) and also on the Validity sensor fingerprint driver

Hello

You do not see a drive to select because no DriveLock compatible drives are present at that moment.

Drive Lock is a great technology. It has been developed for ATA (SATA) controllers and is part of that specification. The latest NVME SSD controllers do not support that particular standard, so the BIOS does not see a drive capable of supporting the Drivelock features.

What kind of SSD you have ?

It would help to know if this is a commercial or consumer product, and also which model are you asking about?

THe Elitebook 840 G5 only supports TPM 2.0... TPM 1.2 was supported in previous generations in order to install and use Microsoft Bitlocker on Windows 7. Since the 840 G5 does NOT support Windows 7, it did not make sense to have a TPM 1.2 chip supported

The Probook 430 G5 supports usb-c PD (power delivery) and Alt-Mode video passthrough of usb 3.1 gen2. The new Hp Tunderbolt G2 dock supports TB connected laptops but will also support plan usb-c PD/Alt-mode connections and will behave, in that case, as a standard usb-c dock - NOT a TB dock

which means, the Probook G5 models will work with the G2 TB dock, but not as a thunderbold dock

Can you provide information on which Zbook 17 generation are you using, and what is a lightining dock? is that an HP dock? how is the dock connected to the Zbook?

And what is the difference between TB dock and USB-C dock in this case? I only want to charge the laptop at the same time Im using 2 monitors and peripheals.

Looks like that is the issue.  I have a NVM drive that came with the laptop so the DriveLock must not be able to see it.   As these NVM drives are becoming more common, it would be nice for HP to develope a similar technology as DriveLock for the NVM drives.

Thanks for the clarification and help!

You are welcome, Dave!

While DriveLock is definitely a great one, a workaround I can offer you is to use full disk encryption programs +  activate preboot password from withing the computer (POST power-on password and BIOS password).

  • You can enter the BIOS and go to "Security" tab to activate the BIOS password and the power-on POST password. Make sure you do remember what you enter and be careful when you enter them. Make them strong but not too long so that it's convenient for you
  • You can use BitLocker from Microsoft or VeraCrypt (3rd party free app)

VeryCrypt sounds more reliable but BitLocker is also OK and is easier to use.

Bitlocker comes for free in Windows 10 Pro. If you use Home edition, you may upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro one time payment , or use VeraCrypt for free

The full disk encryption software will encode your entire drive (or selected partitions) and will make them unreable without the key you set.  Drive Lock would also lock the drive itself and make it unusable for a potential theif but still the software encryption is an alternative. Hope this helps.
